Kodo Millet Upma

A comforting South Indian upma made with kodo millet, vegetables, and simple tempering, perfect for a light yet filling meal.

Cooking Steps

Kodo Millet Upma

Step 1 :

Wash the kodo millet two to three times, drain completely, and keep aside.

Step 2 :

Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add mustard seeds and allow them to splutter.

Step 3 :

Add urad dal and channa dal; sauté until they turn light golden.

Step 4 :

Add curry leaves, green chillies, and grated ginger. Sauté briefly.

Step 5 :

Add chopped onions and turmeric powder. Sauté until onions turn golden.

Step 6 :

Add chopped carrot, beans, and potato. Sauté for 2–3 minutes.

Step 7 :

Add the washed kodo millet and sauté for 1 minute, mixing well.

Step 8 :

Add water and salt. Mix well and bring to a boil.

Step 9 :

Close the lid and cook on moderate flame for 3 whistles.

Step 10 :

Once pressure subsides, open the lid, fluff gently, and serve hot with chutney or sambar.
