Street-Style Mysore Masala Dosa

Street-style Mysore Masala Dosa is a beloved South Indian street food that combines crispy dosa with spicy masala and tangy garlic chutney.

Cooking Steps

For Masala Bhaji:

Step 1 :

Heat oil in a pan.

Step 2 :

Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds; let them splutter.

Step 3 :

Add urad dal, and chana dal, and sauté until they turn golden.

Step 4 :

Add asafoetida and curry leaves, followed by garlic paste and crushed green chillies; sauté until aromatic.

Step 5 :

Add chopped onion and tomato; sauté until the tomato softens.

Step 6 :

Add grated carrot, beetroot, cabbage, and capsicum; sauté for 2-3 minutes.

Step 7 :

Mix in red chilli powder, turmeric powder, pav bhaji masala, and water.

Step 8 :

Add the mashed potatoes, salt, and lemon juice; combine well.

Step 9 :

Mash the mixture slightly using a masher to blend the flavours.

Step 10 :

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Your masala bhaji is ready.

For Red Garlic Chutney:

Step 1 :

Remove the upper part of the fresh red chillies and cut them into pieces.

Step 2 :

Grind the red chillies with onions, garlic cloves, and tamarind pulp to form a smooth paste. Add a little water if needed.

Step 3 :

Heat oil in a pan, then add the ground mixture.

Step 4 :

Add salt and dhania jeera powder; cook for about 4-5 minutes until the oil separates from the chutney.

Step 5 :

Transfer the chutney to a bowl and allow it to cool to room temperature.

For Dosa

Step 1 :

Heat a nonstick tawa on medium flame.

Step 2 :

Sprinkle a little water on the tawa; when the water evaporates, spread a ladleful of dosa batter in a circular motion.

Step 3 :

Cook for 1 minute until the bottom side starts to turn golden brown.

Step 4 :

Apply some ghee or butter on top.

Step 5 :

Spread red garlic chutney all over the dosa.

Step 6 :

Place a big spoonful of masala bhaji on one side of the dosa and spread it evenly.

Step 7 :

Fold the dosa by three sides or fold as you like.

Step 8 :

Serve hot with sambar and coconut chutney.
