The richness of almonds and presence of honey, make this sweet a healthy dessert option for Diwali. It is not only good in taste but also beautiful to look at.

Cooking Steps

Step 1 :

Grind almonds with their skin to a smooth powder.

Step 2 :

Add honey and water to a pan and keep stirring on medium heat till it starts to boil.

Step 3 :

As soon as it starts boiling, reduce the heat to low, add the almond powder and start stirring once again.

Step 4 :

Cook the mixture till the almond paste starts leaving the sides of the pan for about 2-3 minutes. At this stage, the mixture would somewhat look like a dough.

Step 5 :

Let it cool a bit. Then divide the mixture into separate portions. The number of portions will depend on how big or small you want the diyas or sweets to be.

Step 6 :

Shape it into smooth round balls first. Then give it a shape of diyas or clay lamps.

Step 7 :

Once the diyas have been made, add one or two drops of honey to the khoya, mix well and fill each diya with a small portion of it.

Step 8 :

Remove the skin from the almonds kept aside for decoration. Cut each almond into thin strips.

Step 9 :

Slit one end of each raisin and stick it on each almond strip.

Step 10 :

Place it on the pointed end of the diyas.

Step 11 :

Place a saffron strand on top of each almond strip. This would complete the burning diya look. Serve.
