Fada ni Khichdi

A wholesome Gujarati-style broken wheat and moong dal khichdi loaded with veggies and warming spices.

Cooking Steps

Fada ni Khichdi

Step 1 :

In a large bowl take daliya and moong dal and wash and soak for 5 minutes.

Step 2 :

Wash and chop carrot, potato, tomato and peel the peas. Make ginger paste in a small mortar with pestle.

Step 3 :

In a pressure cooker take 2 tablespoons of ghee and splutter 1 teaspoon mustard and cumin. Add a pinch of asafoetida and 1 dry chilli and a few curry leaves.

Step 4 :

Drain off the water from soaked daliya and moong dal and add to the tempering.

Step 5 :

Saute for 2 minutes until it turns aromatic. Keeping the flame on low add turmeric powder, chilli powder, garam masala and salt. Saute for a minute.

Step 6 :

Add the chopped carrot, potatoes and peas as well as ginger paste and tomato. Saute for a minute. Add 3 cups of water and give it a good stir.

Step 7 :

Pressure cook for 3 minutes. Once the pressure settles down add the chopped coriander leaves and mix well. Enjoy hot khichdi with raita and pickle.
