Whole Wheat Hot Cross Buns

A healthier, eggless version of the traditional Easter special, Hot Cross buns. Made with whole wheat flour and an added surprise of tutti frutti and raisins gives it a whole new taste.

For Hot Cross Buns

Step 1 :

Mix milk, sugar and yeast and keep aside for 10 minutes or until the mixture becomes bubbly.

Step 2 :

Take whole wheat flour, salt and bread improver and mix well. Form a well in the centre and pour in the yeast mixture along with some warm water and knead until it all comes together roughly.

Step 3 :

Add the tutti frutti and raisins to the mix and knead well for 10 minutes. Incorporate the butter well into the dough till it's soft.

Step 4 :

Keep the dough for raising in a warm place for 1 hour. Divide the dough into 9 equal divisions and shape it into a bun shape and keep it for proofing for at least 20 minutes in a warm place.

Step 5 :

Prepare a pipeable mixture of all-purpose flour, water and two tablespoons of melted dark chocolate.

Step 6 :

Pipe it on the buns as a cross and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 45-60 minutes depending upon the size of your oven and buns until it's golden brown on top. Take it out and allow it to cool.

Step 7 : For Decoration

Make a bunny and egg shape with melted dark and white chocolate and set it in the freezer. Place it on the buns once cooled.
