Step 1 :
Preheat the oven to 180°C and grease the cake tin with butter.
Step 2 :
Place the finely chopped dates in a bowl with baking soda and 300 ml boiling water. Stir and set aside.
Step 3 :
Beat butter and sugar in a large bowl until pale and fluffy, add ginger powder and the eggs, one at a time.
Step 4 :
Then add maida, beat it well, followed by the dates and the water. Now, add the chopped figs and mix well.
Step 5 :
Pour the runny mixture into the cake tin and bake for 15 minutes.
Step 6 :
Reduce the oven temperature to 170°C and cook for 50-55 minutes until a skewer inserted at center comes out clean.
Step 7 :
Once the cake is cooked, slide the tray out from the oven and carefully lay the fig wedges over the top.
Step 8 :
Brush the top with honey, then pop the cake back into the oven for the last 5 minutes to finish it off.
Step 9 :
Remove the baked cake from the oven and leave it to cool in the tin for 10 minutes.
Step 10 :
Remove the cake out of the tin and allow it to cool down completely on a wire rack. Decorate it with chopped ginger and figs.
