Matar ka Nimona

Nimona is a slow cooked flavorful curry originating from Uttar Pradesh. Made with green peas and a blend of Indian spices, this dish tastes great when served with hot rice.

Step 1 :

Heat mustard oil in a pan, fry the diced potatoes and keep it aside.

Step 2 :

Coarsely, grind the peas in a blender and keep it aside.

Step 3 :

In the same pan, add bay leaf, cumin seeds, hing, ginger garlic paste and green chillies. Add the prepared pea paste in the pan and let it cook on a low flame till the paste is cooked.

Step 4 :

Add diced tomatoes and salt to it and cook till the tomatoes turn soft.

Step 5 :

To this mixture, add the fried potatoes.

Step 6 :

Add turmeric powder, red chili powder and coriander powder. Mix it well and cook till you see the oil separating from the gravy.

Step 7 :

Add 1/2 cup of water and garam masala, stir it well and cook it for 10 minutes. If needed add some more water.

Step 8 :

The nimona is ready to be served with rice.
