This is a traditional dish that is prepared for festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi.

Cooking Steps

Step 1 :

Wash raw rice well in water, pat it dry completely using kitchen towel. Grind the raw rice grains into a fine rice powder.

Step 2 :

Heat coconut oil in a kadai and add the rice flour in it.

Step 3 :

Add required amount of water and a pinch of salt and ensure there are no lumps. Allow it to cook for a while, touch and feel the consistency. It should transform into a soft dough, transfer the dough into a plate.

Step 4 :

Melt jaggery and strain it. Add grated coconut and roasted besan along with elaichi powder. Mix it well.

Step 5 :

Make small lemon size balls, grease your hands with coconut oil. Flatten each ball into discs and add the jaggery coconut filling in the middle.

Step 6 :

Close on all sides and shape it into modakams.

Step 7 :

Apply oil on an idli plate and place all the modaks. Steam it for 5-15 minutes by adding water at the bottom.

Step 8 :

Place it in a bowl and serve hot.
