Pongal/Sankranti calls for some good food and one such delight is Khara Pongal, it is a popular South Indian dish that is offered to the Deity on this auspicious day.

Step 1 :

Cook dal and rice together with turmeric powder and in a pressure cooker until mushy.

Step 2 :

Heat a little ghee in a pan and fry the cashew nuts until they turn brown and keep them aside.

Step 3 :

In the same pan, heat the rest of the ghee and add all spices in it.

Step 4 :

Add cashew nuts and roasted peanuts in it, saute for a minute.

Step 5 :

Mix rice and dal in it. Add a little water, if required.

Step 6 :

Add salt and ghee for better taste. Cook well and serve it hot.
