Preparation

Step 1 :

Preheat oven to 350 -degree Fahrenheit. Grease the baking dish with butter.

Step 2 : Cheese sauce:

Melt butter over medium heat and add onion and garlic.

Step 3 :

Sauté until translucent.

Step 4 :

Stir in the flour and cook stirringly for about 1 minute.

Step 5 :

Gradually whisk in milk and continue whisking until thickened.

Step 6 :

Remove from heat and stir in mozzarella cheese until blended.

Step 7 :

Add salt, pepper and nutmeg.

Step 8 :

Place half of the sliced potatoes in the greased baking dish by overlapping them.

Step 9 :

Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.

Step 10 :

Repeat with second layer of potatoes and cheese sauce.

Step 11 :

Sprinkle with gouda cheese on top.

Step 12 :

Bake uncovered for about 45 minutes to 1 hour or until the top is golden brown and sauce is bubbling.

Step 13 :

Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
