Onion Pesarattu

This is another version of dosa, which is mainly prepared with hara moong dal (green gram) with skin and rice batter. It goes well with peanut chutney and sambar. I have given it a twist to it by adding onions to the dosa.

Dosa Batter

Step 1 :

Soak dal and rice separately for about 4 hours. After soaking, take ginger and chilli in a grinder and grind it smoothly. Post that, add dal and rice together into the grinder and make a smooth paste.

Step 2 :

While grinding, add cooked rice. Set it aside for 1 hour. Take onions cut it into small pieces. Add salt to the batter. After 1 hour, take the dosa pan and let it get heated.

Step 3 :

Take batter into the laddie and pour the dosa batter. With the back of the ladle, move the batter clockwise. Sprinkle onions and little oil on top of the dosa. Cook it until it turns golden brown in colour. Your onion PESARATTU is ready to serve.

Peanut Chutney

Step 1 :

Roast peanuts and add onions, tomatoes, green and red chillies and jeera. Cook until it is half done. After cooling, make it into a smooth paste.

Step 2 :

For tempering, heat 2 tsp oil. Add mustard seeds, red chillies, hinge and curry leaves.

Sambar

Step 1 :

Soak dal for 1 hour and cook it with tomatoes in pressure cooker for 3 to 4 whistles. Take a large kadai. Add 2 tsp oil.

Step 2 :

Once it is hot, add mustard seeds, jeera, garlic, hing, red chillies and curry leaves. After heating it, add the veggies mentioned by cutting them into 1/2 an inch.

Step 3 :

After it is half boiled, add tamarind juice and salt let it to cook for 5 minutes. Add the cooked dal and boil it for 10 minutes. Adjust salt and spice as per your taste. Finally add coriander for garnishing.
