Fried Chicken

Fried chicken is a popular dish among most southern US households on family get-togethers and holidays like Independence Day. It involves using chicken which has been floured or battered and then deep fried or pan fried. My recipe is a variation as it incorporates the flavour of orange juice.

Step 1 :

The day before you want to make fried chicken, coat the chicken in buttermilk, salt and half of paprika and refrigerate overnight

Step 2 :

At the time of cooking, take a shallow dish and add the eggs, orange juice, some salt and half of the thyme and mix well

Step 3 :

In another dish, take flour, salt, remaining paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper and rest of the thyme and mix well.

Step 4 :

Take the chicken out at least one hour before cooking so it is at room temperature while cooking.

Step 5 :

Heat oil in a frying pan.

Step 6 :

Drench the chicken first in egg mixture and then in flour and fry on medium to low heat. Take 2 to 3 pieces at a time for approximately 20 minutes.

Step 7 :

Serve with your favourite veggies or potatoes.
