Preparation

Step 1 : For Marination

Add lemon juice to the fish slices and smear them with two spoons of red chilly powder and a pinch of turmeric and keep them covered with a net and let them marinate for an hour.

Step 2 : For Frying

Take oil in a flat bottomed kadai and fry the fish pieces and keep them separately.

Step 3 :

Soak the tamarind in three cups of water for fifteen to twenty minutes. Add gingelly oil to a kadai.

Step 4 :

Add red chillies first and onions later with fenugreek and let them fry until they turn golden. Now add the tomatoes, add the salt.

Step 5 :

Once the tomatoes are cooked, add turmeric and red chilly powder. Add the tamarind water after discarding the used tamarind pieces.

Step 6 :

Let this gravy cook well. Once the gravy starts to boil, add the fish pieces and let them cook for five minutes.

Step 7 :

Take this off flame and fry mustard, curry leaves and asaofetida separately and add it to the fish gravy. Let it rest for an hour or two and serve it with piping hot rice.
