1. Wash (whole / dals) pulses, it is best to rinse them under running water.
2. Put your grains to wash in a bowl and hold it under running water.
3. Rub the grains with your hands gently.
4. Rinse it until the water becomes clear. Use a large saucepan or cooking container, as pulses double or triple in volume during cooking. (Dry pulses will yield approximately 2-3 times their original amount when cooked.)
5. Bring water to a boil, cover tightly, reduce heat and simmer until pulses are just tender and not mushy.
