Steak is an American whole meal which comes with a juicy meat, potatoes, lots of green vegetables and egg. It’s a high protein meal and keeps you filling full for a long time. One of my favourites!

Cooking Steps

Preparation

Step 1 :

First dry the Beef/Lamb steak piece with paper towels properly and then make a mix of salt and black pepper. Rub this mix on the steak properly and refrigerate it for 2 hours minimum. You can keep this overnight too.

Step 2 :

In the mean time cut and blanch the vegetables, dice the mushrooms, boil the potatoes.

Step 3 :

Now after boiling the potatoes, keep them for 1 minute into chilled water

Step 4 :

Now taking them out mash them properly dissolving any lumps.

Step 5 :

Now in it put 4 tbsp of milk and mix properly. Now add butter and keep on kneading and mixing all in. Season it with salt and slight pepper and garlic powder. Now add grated cheese in it and mash it and mix it up properly. You can pass it through a sieve to avoid any lump.

Step 6 :

Now slice the onions and in a heated pan spray some canola oil and caramelise them till tender. Now after 1 and half hours take the steak out from the refrigerator and let it come down to room temperature.

Step 7 :

Now heat an iron skillet or griddle or nonstick pan till it smokes out. Now put the steak in the pan and start searing it on high. Now add a dollop of butter into the pan and let the steak soak up the butter and the juices.

Step 8 :

Now to get a medium rare steak you need a total of maximum 8 minutes if the steak is thick else it will do in 6 minutes only. 3 or 4 minutes each side. Keep on adding butter after tossing to the other side.

Step 9 :

In the mean time, in another pan put some butter and toss the blanched vegetables and mushrooms along with some salt and pepper as seasonings. Let them be crunchy and not mushy on the plate.

Step 10 :

In another pan fry the egg sunny side up. Let the beef steak rest on a flat surface for 2 to 3 minutes. Don't forget to foil wrap it as that helps to retain the juices. Now on the serving plate place the vegetables and mashed potato on one side and the hot beef steak on another.

Step 11 :

Top it with caramelised onions and a dollop of butter on it. Place the egg beside it or you can place it on top of the steak too. Now pour the sauce extracted from the butter and juices in the pan left from the steak. Serve hot.
