I actually thought it was defective as I have no idea how to use it.
I didn't turn on the OTG connection on my phone before connecting it to otg and that got me to confirm that this otg is defective. Later after watching YouTube videos, I get to make it work.
It works well.

For beginners, to make things simple, follow the steps below.

How to connect:
Step-1: Go to settings >> Additional Settings >> OTG Connection >> then toggle on OTG connection 
Step-2: Connect OTG adapter to your mobile
Step-3: Then connect your usb peripheral.
