This fruit spread almost did not get made. This one is for those who identify as Pepper-tarians. We used Sichuan pepper, prevalent in our ancestral cuisines, and suddenly, from the spread that almost was not, it is now the closest to our histories, and to our hearts. The marriage of Alphonso from Ratnagiri and the quintessential Konkani spice, tirphal, this fruit spread is for those who pine for their roots, from where their ancestors came forth and reached for the skies. Like our grandmother did, it is made with love. It goes well in smoothies and with ice-cream. Pepper-lovers are not wrong! Pepper works with both, sweet and savoury. The jams go really well with pooris, and the regular cakes & muffins, toast, and smoothies. Our favourite though is when used as a cocktail mix (Psst! Do not tell anyone). The world suddenly opens up to possibilities beyond what we had hoped for. Try it! And if you get addicted, blame the pepper. You have been warned!
